The 8 biggest annoyances of motorhomers (and what you can do about them)

Travelling by motorhome remains incredibly popular. The freedom to go wherever you want — it’s truly unique. Yet, not every overnight stay goes smoothly. Our recent survey of more than 10,000 motorhomers shows that eight common frustrations can seriously spoil the fun and these are precisely the areas where you, as a campsite or motorhome site manager, can make a difference.

1. Dirty or poorly maintained facilities

A shower that in desperate need of cleaning or toilets without toilet paper: for 62% of motorhomers, that’s a real downer. By scheduling regular cleaning times and checking facilities daily, you can make a huge difference in the overall experience.

2. Too little privacy

Pitches that are so close together that you can literally hear your neighbours – not everyone finds that pleasant. Especially those seeking peace and space. For 58%, this is a recurring source of irritation. Create a greater sense of space with plants, partitions or a smart layout of the pitches – for example, by staggering the pitches. Your guests will experience more privacy.

3. High price, low comfort

A high price for overnight stays, while there are hardly any facilities, causes disappointment. 65% of motorhomers believe that the price should better reflect what’s actually offered. Be transparent about what is included and make sure higher rates come with clear added value. Also keep your prices up to date on your website and the Campercontact platform to avoid unrealistic expectations

4. No space for spontaneous overnight stays – and nooption to book in advance

The romance of setting off without a fixed plan often fades, especially in high season. After a long drive, arriving to find no available spots is a common reality — many motorhome sites are simply full. Many motorhomers experience stress when they are not sure if there will still be space upon arrival. Booking a spot in advance prevents a lot of uncertainty –and unnecessary detours. Campercontact makes it easy to book your location, even for last-minute arrivals.

 5. Bans on outdoor chairs or awnings

For many motorhomers, outdoor living is a key part of the experience. If a location does not allow camping chairs or awnings, it can feel like a restriction of that freedom. It is important to have clear rules, but without limiting the essence of motorhome travel.

6. Poor ground conditions in the rain

A soggy lawn or a spot full of muddy puddles not only makes parking difficult, but also leads to dirty shoes, wet carpets and slippery walks. You can prevent this with proper drainage and a reinforced surface. Make sure that rainwater flows away easily. This will increase comfort in rainy weather and protect your grounds for damage.

7. Strict check-in and check-out times

Fixed arrival and departure times sometimes clash with the flexible mindset of many motorhomers. After all, keeping an eye on the clock doesn’t always fit the holiday spirit. Can you be flexible and extend these times? Your guests will definitely appreciate it.

8. No place to dispose of waste water

Practical, but important: without a proper place to empty waste water, motorhome owners have to search for alternative facilities – often involving long detours. Provide at least one clearly marked disposal point and add this service to your Campercontact profile so that travelers know they can count on you.

Small improvements, big impact

Motorhomers value freedom, comfort and reliability. By paying attention to cleanliness, privacy, clear information and practical facilities, you can create a site that travelers want to return to — and one that earns positive reviews.
